Seventh Generation believes that Community Power represents the future direction of energy in the U.S.A. Community Power means energy generation is designed and implemented for the benefit of local groups, organizations, municipalities or political subdivisions.
Community Power is also called micro-centralization to distinguish it from small individually owned distributed generation and large utility scaled generation. Wind, solar and biomass facilities all benefit from economies of scale. However communities may only benefit marginally if the development company is out of state or controlled by investor owned utilities without ties to the community in which the generation is located.
